Reel to reel, cassette and other analogue tape formats.

6 heads, no mechanical head rotation mechanism needed for playback in both directions. Should be almost as easy to work on as the 458, and should sound marginally better if the heads are in good shape.

I have never had a bad experience buying used when an item has been obviously as well taken care of. We'll see. There's always a first time :(
