Nakamichi 600 - an early Father's Day present from son #3.

He replaced all the belts, cleaned the pots, and in general polished it up. At the moment it's playing Schumann's 4th symphony and sounds quite nice.

Unfortunately it was shipped loose in the box with the cover on it. The cover was destroyed and there's a ding on the upper left corner of the face plate. He called the shipper and when the dust settled was given a 35% discount. Final price was $65 + shipping.

When comparing the Nak with his Denon it sounded like the Nak was running slow. We pulled the cover off to look at the speed adjustment, and what appears to be a brake felt fell on the table. We put the cover back on and when I got home some exploring was done.

When the face plate was taken off an o-ring about 15/16ths of an inch diameter dropped out. I've gone through the service manual and can find neither the o-ring or felt listed. The reel brakes appear to have pads on them, but it's possible both have fallen off and I'm looking at the surface a felt pad should be attached to. Since the pause doesn't completely stop the reels that is likely.

As for speed - a comparison with the Onkyo deck shows the two running at the same speed. Maybe the Denon is fast? Who knows.
