Did the dealer say anything about the last time the deck was cleaned and lubed? That's one of the things about owning these machines. They need to be serviced regularly even if they weren't being used. The grease and oils harden after a while and seeing that it was probably built in the early '80 ( at least) and this was almost exclusively a consumer owned deck, it may have been 20+ years since it was serviced. There should be a section of your service manual that will tell you how to do basic cleaning and oiling. Also, I don't know if it used any belts, but that is something you should check by removing all of them and seeing if they're still flexible. It could easily be your pinch roller also. It may have a flat spot or the rubber may be hard or dirty. If its not that bad you can use a product called rubber Renue by MG Chemicals. Available at Antique Electronics cheap. If you don't need it now, you will. All these things should be done at least every other year regardless of how often you use it.
