I solved my A820 problem... I now have TWO. One came up on Ebay at an absolutely insane price and I snapped it up. One is going to TdP in the UK if I can ever get ahold of Dan Meinwald and make the arrangements. The other will be on it's way to ATR Magnetics this week for a look see. I also obtained an extra headstack so will have one set up as two track and one as four track. This way I have the best of all worlds. One Manley/JRF deck (albeit a 'lowly' 807), one Aria and one TdP. In addition to all this, I have a Nagra IV-S at Trew Audio getting a 1/4 track play head so that'll be 2/4 track switchable as well. I think I've totally lost my mind but at least I'm having fun while going bankrupt. :D
