Hello Tapers,As I look around to find a nice 2-track recorder for mastering, I'm finding that if I want to go with a late-model Teac (say 2000R, 3030, or BR-20T), a clean well cared for unit is bringing at least $600 - $800, some substantially more.
In the meantime, I also see a lot of what appear to be nice, not so used 34B's selling for $200 - $400 (or less).
So my query is this....what is the reality of converting a 34B to a 2-track mastering unit. Would it be comparable (sonically) to the aforementioned factory 2-tracks (dbx out of course, for fair comparison)?
I have adequate skills in wiring, soldering, test eq., etc. to perform this type operation, I just don't know if it's worth it or even feasible.
Thanks for sharing the knowledge. I love this place. Wish there was a room just for r2r.
