Help with no high end on Maxell XLII-S Tape's?

I received some New in the wrapper 1986 Maxell XLII-S 90 tapes that i purchased on ebay and when i record on these tapes i cannot get any good high end off them even with the bias control on my 3 head deck turned all the way to the - side counter clock wise or the 7 o'clock position.I have used this year of XLII-S that i have bought from different folk's on ebay but this set has no high end.Does anyone know what could be causeing the lack in high end?Or is it that they were just not stored properly (Heat and Humidity)? P.S. It's not my deck because they do this in all 3 of my extremely clean and well cared for deck's.Thanks for any advice,Peace Keith H.
