Depending on the application within the machine, I generally use DuPont Krytox Fluorinated Grease or Mobil 1 5-W30. I would go ahead and run the machine, and check for any odd functionality or problems. Since you said it is brand new out of box, chances are it will be just fine. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And the belt may very well be fine as well.I just finished doing up a Teac 1230 that sat in an attic for 20 years. It just needed some minor TLC and it now functions like new.
