Ampex 456, 406 and 407 was problematic until about 1991/92, at least in my experience. Scotch 250 was even worse- the oxide layer actually seperated from the binder and became totally unuseable, whereas Grandmaster just needs baking to play cleanly. Wendy Carlos has good information on her website about sticky tapes.
