If your power cord has cracks in the insulation, by all means, go ahead and replace it. If not, then unless you are in a high RF environment and are experiencing interference that is audible, don't waste your money. If you ARE in such an environment, use a shielded Power Cord and ground the shield at the deck itself, NOT at the plug end.As for replacing the internal wiring, don't bother. You are asking for MOUNDS of problems and will be making WAY too many changes to the various internal stray capacitances of the original wiring to be able to effectively evaluate whether you have actually improved anything or not. If you MUST try to upgrade something, replacing the coupling capacitors with better quality components would be the way to go. But, be prepared to completely re-align the deck electronics if you do this.
Sure, the connectors can be replaced with better quality parts (and this makes *some* sense) but exactly what are you trying to accomplish by replacing the internal wiring? Unless you are addressing a SPECIFIC problem AND have a SPECIFIC plan to do this, you are likely to turn your "It sounds outstanding in my system now" deck into something that just might sound like swill.
Unless you have EXTENSIVE experience in the audio and RF field, replacing the internal wiring in your tape deck makes as much sense as taking an incandescent light bulb apart to rebuild it and "make it better."
Of course, this is only MY humble opinion, (and I'm SURE that many other inmates will take me to task for it) but when it comes to "improvements," it only makes sense to "improve" something that NEEDS it.
