Hey Pelican,
WIth regards to your B77 v. G36. If it were me, inspite of my love of all things tube audio, I would recommend the B77. It has a superior tape transport (which uses a full logic transport that will handle your valuable tapes gently) and excellent electronics that offer much better performance both with respects to playback as well as recording. Unless you can have your G36 radically modified by someone like Tim de Paravicini, it's performance will always be second rate compared to the B77.
