To avoid this confusion, why not just fill in the moniker (if you find the cookie) any time you put up the message posting box?Also, if you find a valid cookie, indicate that a user is "logged in" rather than displaying a "Login" link. That too is confusing.
Then display a "Logout" link, which would be the same as an "Eat my cookie". The current "Login" link looks to actually be a link to user management and would better be stated as such.
