Each UPS shipper gets a book of preprinted tracking numbers on stickers which attach to the package.A shipper can easily fake a UPS shipment by filling out the shipping document, assigning tracking numbers, signing the form where the driver normally signs, and faxing a copy of the signed form to the unwitting consignee. The only way to confirm is to enter the tracking number online into the UPS tracking system and get confirmation of pickup.
Of course UPS often claims not to have record of a package which is actually in its system. So, wait for it to arrive. Having a tracking number is in itself meaningless.
