If you have the slightest inkling that something like this is a phishing scheme, just click on VIEW>HEADERS>ALL on your browser menu (some browsers have a VIEW SOURCE link next to the SENDER). You will 99 times out of a hundred find that the source of the email never passed through the supposed sender. Than you know your inklings were founded. If the supposed sender does show up in the source path, I would still contact them via normal channels (known phone or email address), and never respond directly to the link in the suspicious email.
