the cost and size being a major issue but it is still fairly popular PSU topology among artisanal western makers and DIY folk.
Also far east seem to like 9 pin signal tubes much more than octals (WE excluded of course )
Probably because Octals have a thick tone suitable to bassy instruments and nine pinners and a thinner tone suitable for whining strings and flutes :)
