I'm sure this has been talked about but I'm not finding any straightforward answers.
I have Allnic Audio A-6000 300b monoblocks. They use a quad per side and are good for 50 watts/channel with standard tubes, or 60 watts with 300b XLS tubes.
The amps have switches for 8 ohms and 4 ohm speaker loads. (They also have a no neg-feedback switch).
I just bought new speakers, which are not really an ideal match for a 300b amp, but sound fantastic. The speakers are Piega C40 and are rated nominal 4 ohms, 89db sensitivity.
It's early days but I slightly prefer the sound running with the 8 ohm setting on the amps. I play loud - 95dB or more, and I don't hear compression, strain or clipping.
Question - is it safe to run the amps from the 8 ohm setting into a 4 ohm load?
I've read conflicting information when searching on this (surprise, surprise). Some say it's not an issue while others say it could damage the output transformers or shorten tube life. I don't want either to happen.
Without getting too technical, can someone please offer an explanation as to what risks are involved here, if any?
Many thanks!!

- No, it will not damage trannies or shorten tube life. - viridian 14:23:14 01/09/22 (1)
