House Power Feed in. a caution

On the way to work this morning, at a stop in traffic, I spotted a wire problem at a house..

A little background...

On the telephone poles here, there is a transformer up there every so often. It is fed from one of the three phase lines way way up there, and it provides 220 to several houses. At each house, they tap from that 220 secondary, and the steel wire that holds those two wires up all the way to the house, is the same wire that is used as the neutral in the 220 panel in your house.

Only, at this house, that steel wire was broken..the bracket on the side of the house had let go, and now, the steel one's end is dangling..

This means that all the 110 loads in the house will be pulling current through the ground wire attached to the plumbing...

Major problem, especially if the ground clamp at the water pipe is corroded..ESPECIALLY if they have a pool!!!

Gonna notify LIPA..

Meanwhile, just a heads up to everyone..

Cheers, John
