I have 2 different rigs. One is all solid state, the other uses mostly tubes. One day I swapped interconnects between stereos. It was seriously disconcerting. Synergy is everything. I happen to prefer silver ICs with most of my gear. They're just more focused and transparent than some of the copper cables I have. Still, one of my favorites uses both copper and silver. One thing that really surprised me was when I made a simple twisted pair of RG6 cable minus the outer jacket and braided shield. This is for speaker wire mind you. It's one of the fastest and clearest speaker cables I've ever tried. It even betters my old favorite Kimber 4TC in many ways.
I've pretty much lost interest in buying expensive cables. Then again, if I could afford them I'd probably like to get some Kimber Select cables. Partly for the sound, partly for the looks, and partly for the hell of it. Plus Ray is pretty cool.
