Man I hate when threads get moved while I'm replying to one of the posts.I opted to post this here rather than to Phil's original post which is now on Whiner's as I feel that this is indeed the last word on the AA/cable manufacturer conspiracy issue. Anyone espousing this conspiracy from here on I will suggest they consider professional help.
It may or may not be "heavy", but adding up Audio Asylum forums, Video forms and Sponsor forums, I get around 30. CA is just one of them. PS audio does sell some cables. But overall, 10% of the adds for one group is disporportionate to the number of forums devoted to that group.
Huh? What have the number of forums to do with it?
Sure, Cable Asylum is pretty much the only forum dedicated specifically to cables. But cables are still a relevant topic of discussion in every other audio-related forum here seeing as all the other audio-related forums typically involve equipment which requires cables.
But let's get back to the conspiracy theory.
Jon encourages people NOT to go out and buy the high-priced, high-markup "esoteric" cables from the likes of Kimber and others, but rather to save a good amount of money and make their own cables and pushes his own designs based not on any "esoteric" cable manufacturer's wire, but the wire from a conventional commercial/industrial cable manufacturer, Belden. Which is not an AA sponsor.
Now how on earth does encouraging someone to go out and buy some plain ol' Belden from some plain ol' wire distributor benefit any of the "esoteric" cable manufacturers?
You've said on a number of occasions that you think I'm a pretty bright guy, Phil. But I'll be damned if I can figure that one out.
If there were an Exhibit A for the defense that there's no conspiracy going on between AA and the "esoteric" cable manufacturers, it would be Jon himself!
Every time Jon convinces someone to opt for one of his designs which he so aggressively markets on Cable Asylum, the "esoteric" cable manufacturers lose a potential sale.
If there were a conspiracy going on between AA and the "esoteric" cable manufacturers, you wouldn't find Jon on Cable Asylum pushing his Belden-based DIY designs, but rather hanging dead from a tree at the entrance to Cable Asylum, strung up with a length of 89259 as a warning to anyone with any silly notions about making their own cables.
The defense rests.
