I use a buffer at the output of my phono stage - so it can quite easily drive an interconnect to a preamp. See here:
I started off with Re = 4K7.
This worked fine ... but then someone (whose opinion I respect) suggested I should instead use Re = 1K.
I've tried this - and this also seems to work fine.
Can anyone explain what implications one value has ... over the other?
