I think I understand the mindset of the other side.....

A person into audio professionally does not perceive things as someone else does. When that someone else claims he can hear differences, instead of merely accepting the difference in perception and moving on, he takes it as a claim that his own perception is somehow inferior.

And this is where they spin the science- They need to be assured that the "superior perception" is nothing more than a psychological delusion.

Then is sprouts in different directions.... The delusions make one go wacko over tubes, tweaks, vinyl, avoiding additional DSP, etc., etc., .....

Not to mention the derogatory catcalls like "golden ears" and "anti-science"......

It's like, so what if he hears better than I do. If I worked in the audio field, I'd take him as a valuable commodity to refine my products, not some crackpot who hears things no better than I do.

I think the root of this entire problem is seeing others' perceptions being different as a citation of inferior perception. Or in other words, taking it personally.

And as a thick-skinned engineer, I don't mind if people mistake me for an idiophool hack that never made it out of high-school.... And if someone claims he can distinguish absolute polarity with headphones (I personally can't), no problem.
