As for ears breaking in, how would you explain the differences heard by those who own multiple pairs of speakers and can compare a new speaker to their tried and trusted older pair?
I suppose that depends on how the comparison is done. I suspect that if the listener was predisposed to think break in was a real and audible phenomenon, and they knew which pair was playing, they could probably pick them out every time. Now what if the older pair sat unused for a prolonged period of time and then the comparison was done without the listener's knowledge which was playing at any given time? Whoops! That would mean a blind taste test and we all know where that's going to lead!
