You may have hit the core of why I personally think low power with high-efficiency speakers outperforms high power with low-efficiency speakers- There is only so much power you can tap from the wall outlet per unit time, and such limitation chokes off high-powered amplification, whenever such power is being utilized.
If you would rather keep your current setup (I like the PSB Golds personally), you should get dedicated 20 amp lines running each monoblock amplifier. (This will bring forth the advantage of using monoblocks.) Preferably separate from the line running your sources and line stage.
