To use a passive pre (like a TVC), one's source--in my case a DAC--must produce voltage that is greater than the input sensitivity of one's amp. The numbers I'm dealing with are 2vRMS for DAC and 1.5v input sensitivity for amp. I'm building a new Dac and am considering different tubes which will produce different output voltages. Beyond striving for voltage "around 2vRMS" to allow for headroom, is there some math around this subject...that I can employ so that I can get comfortable I'm building a circuit that results in adequate headroom?
