Re: In the story they asked a very substantial group on the street as to whether they read blogs.

There has to be millions of blogs out there on the web. The vast majority seem to be personal blogs that nobody reads. But a relatively small number of blogs are hugely popular (e.g. Slashdot).

I do read blogs occasionally, but not as much as I used to in the mid-late 90s. One of my current favorites is the Progressive Rock Archives: http://www.progarchives.com/. Like most big blogs, it grew beyond a basic blog to include a huge repository of information and dedicated discussion forums.

I have mixed feelings about Wikipedia. It is a very convenient source of information, but I think it's gotten so big so fast that much of the information there has not had the level of scrutiny that the founders intended. I don't think the information there is any more complete, correct, or balanced than other sources on the web. But because it's on Wikipedia people will treat it as authoritative. I fear it could also become a battleground over which different groups fight to have their version of truth represented. That means Wikipedia could become a great source of misinformation and/or propaganda.

P.S. This should really be in Water Cooler not Prop Head.
