I'm sorry to say that I have to hit my head against this brick wall at least one more time. The question had to do with increased heating of the output transistors in the Adcom amplifier and potential damage to it, not heat dissipated by the loudspeakers. While it is true that the conversion of electrical energy into heat is equal to the square of the current times the resistance, tripling of the current will not necessarily result in the transistors generating exactly nine times as much heat. It's a little more complicated. The reason is that as more current is drawn and the temperature of the transistors rises, the output transistor juncion resistance may change. By how much? That is impossible to know from the information we have here. It depends on several factors including the characteristics of the transistors themselves, the absolute starting and ending current (1/10 of an amp to 3/10 amps may be insignificant, 1 amp to 3 amps may be very significant), the efficiency of the heat transfer to the heat sinks and their heat dissipating capability, the ambient temperature and whether or not there are any air currents. Therefore, nine times may not be exactly right but three times seems way off the mark.
If Mr. Curl wishes to clarify or explain his statement, I will be happy to listen. If not, I'll assume that he accepts that he made a mistake.
