A 1" tweeter is optimized for about 2-20 KHz coverage. That means it's not optimized for 8-20 KHz coverage, where a smaller driver would. Many "full range" drivers will reach only to about 12 KHz and it can benefit with a driver that covers 12-20 KHz. You can do it with a tweeter or a supertweeter. I've never tried one, but it does make sense in this situation that a smaller and more efficient 8-50 KHz supertweeter is better suited than the 2-20 KHz tweeter in a high efficiency system. The fact that it goes ultrasonic is not necessarily the factor considered. Efficiency of the driver and optimization of the required frequency band covered might be the main consideration.
