They were either 2.5 or 3 inch diameter ones. I had figured the cone moving to and fro would cause the entire cabinet to vibe front to back, but that was not the case. I did build the things like a brick s-house, and as a result, they were not very mobile.During construction, I took it in steps. First, the cab with no braces at all except for edge blocks. All surfaces vibe'd with the driver in. Then, I put diagonal braces on all panels..1 by 4 oak, and that raised all panel resonances (detected by hittin the panels with a ball peen). Still, with driver in, you could feel the panel vibes, but not as much. Then, I ran oak braces across the cab, tying opposing surfaces mechanically. THAT made a huge difference, as it essentially locked the center of the panel and brace in space. There was no vibration discernable to the touch, which puts relative motion down in to the very low micrometer range.
Then I tacked insulation on all surfaces. Vibe was sufficiently low that the ttable didn't feedback even when the vu meter's clicked against their stops (SWTPC tigers). Technics type SL-5100's, a 680el, and big 12 inch single's for tunes. A real ttable with a real cart, playing a good black disk, would probably feedback.
Cabs sounded quite decent for an MI loaded reflex back in '77. Preferred the K's, of course, but I had to run K's either 2, 4, or 8 at a time, depending on half or quarter space. (note: do not ever build a K using mdf, it weighs a ton..)
Cheers, John
