Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

You should try Hi-Def Surround sound.

Hi.

Being still an old fart of stereo only, I've never been impressed by any multi-channel digital music/movie.

But time changes things. Today, we just witness the birth of High Definition Surround sound & High Definition Stereo in SuperDisc produced by Monster Music, a spring-off from Monster Cable. First time ever employing the 24bit 96KHz PCM technology in remixing the old music masters into 5.1 multi-channel format.

A ressurection of old anologue music to hi-resolution digital?!

A few all time favourite music disc is already in the marketplace.
For those home theatre fans, it is claimed to be a breakthrough in 5.1 high resolution video/audio entertainment.

I am given a SuperDisc sample test disc by Monster Music for audition & I've got no chance to test listen yet (frankly, I'm not that interested at all).

That said, I am pretty impressed by DVD-audio stereo which is already
in the marketplace for quite a few years & a lot of DVD-audio stereo
discs are readily available on-line pretty affordably.

Many analogue die-hards hate CD sounds & I am not that impressed also excepting a few test CDs, which I got, pressed from 24bit masters.

It is the lowly sampling frequency of 44.1KHz with sampling depth of 16bits which irritate our ears. Now DVD-audio features 24bit & sampling rates up to 192KHz PCM technology. It takes up all the space for DVD video w/o lossy audio compression.

With DVD-audio/video universal player getting so affordable todate,
I strongly suggest you guys give it a try. You should not be let down
as I said I am pretty impressed for its musicality even on many classical recordings. We don't have to stick to edgy CD sound anymore.
