I've experienced variations of this setup, with comprable results... Sometimes there were orchestral strings, yet in others, there were a saxophone and piano....
The illusion was created because this format is simple, has little or no processing, and lack of storage media to rob the music of spontaneity....
I've never experienced audio systems, which lacked live people as sources, that sounded remotely close to this "realistic" ....
