the drive motors have to be beefier to overcome the Coriolis effect.....as a fact (sic... :^)....) early designs were know to stall without concideration for this. Mostly it was a design oversight in the early years as weaker motors were adiquate in Norther Hemisphere ( as the affect was assisting the motor).
It was just inconceievable to the turntable design pioneerss that any civilized activities would be undertaken down under.
