TASCAM MD recorder is not recording !!

I just bought the 801-R (showroom model, 15 hours of operation, 1 hour of recording, as indicated on the check function).
It's connected via the unbalanced analog cinch to the tape section of the amplifier.
When recording in either of uncalibrated or calibrated, stero or mono mode, the level meter is operating, signal is on headphones. Having finished by pushing the "stop" button, "UTOC writing" is indicated on the display, I can enter disc and track titles (via keyboard), but upon removing and re-inserting that disc it is recognized as new and blank !!!
MDs from another recorder are played without problems.
MD used is Maxell 74 Recordable.
Post-Script recording is set to "on".
Anything (within the menu or editing) that I should pay attention to ?
