OK, here's a weird one. It was a slow day today in the record bin of my favorite thrift store, nothing but Johnny Mathis and RCA Camden mono classical. As I was pouring through the bin my eyes came upon one of those ubiquitous albums which high school bands put out by the thousands, although this one was a 1965 recording of an "honors" band from near Cleveland. Now, I usually pass these right up, but something caused me to open this album. On the label it says "Centruy Custom Records" on top and on the bottom are the words "Jack L. Renner-Associate".
I remember reading the inteview that J-10 did with him for Stereophile that Jack started out doing these kinds of recordings before he ended up at Telarc. Before this two-record album in almost pristine condition gets consigned to the dumpster for eternity I thought it might be nice to ask him if he'd like to have it for any reason. I won't even charge him the buck I paid for it :-)
