I've used several different series of these amps heres my run down:
>>Com Tech
Used more for commercial installations 4 ohm min load, 70 v output capabilities for distributed sound.>>D series
The old reliables, good for home or studio, or PA but no cooling fans would require fan cooled amp racks to keep things cool if used for PA.>>Macro Reference
Never used. Mainly made for recording studios or high end home stereos.>>Macro Tech
Is/was a touring standard, heavy duty, 3 power supplies, still used a lot. Various pip input modules can be installed.>>Micro Tech
Same as the Macro line but uses single power supply, also less options available than the Macro line. Built the same except for the P.S. sections.>>Power Base/CSL
More M.I. based line, some Power Bases had problems blowing up, but the CSL line seemed to be pretty good.>>Power Line (PL series)
Never used.>>PS series
Had a PS 400, about like a heavy duty DC300A series, had a few more features like low freq tracking, no fans, binding post and termianl screw i/o's, different ground configurations.>>PSA series
Old series, replace the DC series back in late '70 as the touring std., built like a tank, most of them I know of have been pretty well beat the shit out of, Crowns 1st amp with an analog computer in it. Hard to find parts for, that is if something goes wrong with them the last I heard.>>Power Tech
Currenty have PT2 and PT1's good reliable amps, about like Micro Techs, chassis isn't as heavy duty as the Micro Techs.>>Pulse
Never used.>>XLS series
To new, never used yet. These are just some of my views of using them. But with any Crown product I've used, they are reliable and they last for years and years.
