Re: New Bose PA systems

I've used them extensively and to answer your question, read on...

They are marketed as an easy setup, but, one complete system comes in 4 separate pieces: the sub, the base(amplifier), and the two halves of the tower. In my opinion it is just easier to carry a self-powered JBL and a tripod - you will get far better sound and pay less than half.

Their controls/interface are cumbersome. The system includes a little wired palm-sized satellite level controller. It sucks - the input channel on the amplifier/base has a gain control, the cute little remote has a gain control, and it also has a master gain control...Arrrrgggh! I still didn't conclude which control is at the top of the signal chain!

The sound - it just takes too much effort to make them sound < ok. EQ helps just a little. Ringing them out is another issue. They're not very directional plus it seems like they have tons of compression on 'em.

Their look - they look great. And people always tell me that and they say, "Man, I'd love to have these in my house!" Sigh, what corporate marketing can do...

It seems like Bose took the same marketing approach to the pro audio business that they took to the home theater business; have low profile sleek looking speakers for the upper end and big mud flinger of a sub for the low's... and a sticker that should say: "Mid-Bass Not Included."

Lastly, let me tell you this. Any truely professional piece of audio equipment will have it architectual specifications posted either in the manual or on its respective website. Try to find the specs on the Bose.
