I need some advice. I am a owner of a HHB 850 CD Pro CD recorder.
I recently purchased a LP turntable. The HHB has analog inputs (1/4 in and balanced canon type) along with all the different digital inputs (very nice machine), anyway, I am in the process of starting to record to CD's some of the LP's in my collection. The HHB 850 has a "auto track" function, which if set up right will number the tracks as they are recorded by sensing the "quiet area" between tracks on the LP's.....my problem is that for this function to work the recording level has to be kept to low (only half on the level meters)...the only other way is to number the tracks manually and thats sort of a pain in the butt..... I would like to try using a noise gate to bring the noise level down between tracks and still keep the recoding level where it should be. I have been seeing alot of noise gates that are also compressors. Do I need a noise gate or will a compressor do what I am trying to do or should I go with a combination gate/compressor? Can anyone suggest a certain brand /model. I see that DBX has a couple that are under $300.00 and I have seen others up near $900.00. Whatever I buy i want to make sure it does not add anything to the recording. I just want to reduce the LP surface noise that is there in between LP tracks...........thanks
