Not hard at all, but practice on a junk box first. To make seams overlap the two pieces, guide your blade with a steel straightedge, cut both layers at the same time. Good adhesive is a must- I won't use anything other than 3M Super 99 spray-on; other stuff doesn't hold. Carpet is easier to work with since you can stretch it.
