If it alternates direction every single time you flip the switch, then I would believe Bill Fitzmaurice. The glass plate in my microwave alternates every single time. But, if it doesn't alternate every single time then it sounds like you have a single pole AC induction motor that either doesn't have the additional torque windings needed to start it in the same direction each time, or they're faulty. Contact the manufacturer and ask.
