Two easy ways.....One: Hang out at a large city recording studio...until they hire you to take out the garbage....Then as you get to know the personell, and the setup, they may take you on...and when you bust the chops of the chief enginner on a mix...you are in....Alan Parsons did just that.
He was my first Mentor.
Two: Slowly but surely...Purchase equipment, until you have your own rig...when you get really good...you are bound to get noticed...
Two B : (toobie) Spend 200K at a major recording school for the recording arts....And get a job duping tapes...paying 5.50/Hr....
The above is what usually happens to many a graduate at a prestigious school. Their are only so many studios, and the "rigs" can top 2 million easy ...
I did both plan 1, and 2.
Now I have over 1800 Albums under my belt, and tens of thousands of hours. I personally wore out 5 sets of heads on a brand new studer, from 76 until 88. If I had a dollar for every DAT head I wore out...we could have lobster for two.
Most of my work is repairing major studio "mess up's". Truly a behind the scene man.
Nice thing though......The equipment is mine.....I may start a school someday...
