Re: They're both obsolete.

Bill,

Just for the record, the original question did not specify the number of boxes to achieve "throw". There are many professional applications that do not require or permit multiple loudspeaker arrays whatever the format. The KF850 and Wavefront 8C are industry-standard systems that have proven themselves to be very useful tools in the hands of experienced users. The single-box SPL and predictable coverage that can be realized from just one of these "obsolete" designs would be somewhat better than a typical line array module, not to mention the differences in the deployment of the single enclosures.

Line-array or clustered trap; ALL designs have advantages and drawbacks. How about the VERTICAL lobing on your line array design? The human ear is not as sensitive to it as it is to horizontal lobing, but it is there nonetheless. What about secondary reflections off of walls due to a 100 or 120 degree horizontal dispersion pattern when you are in a narrow venue?

You seem to be very experienced with many aspects of loudspeaker design, but you should probably try to keep a more open mind to different applications that are outside your own personal experiences or preferences. I don't think that you are in the same league as Kenton Forsythe or Bill Webb.

You wouldn't last 15 minutes on a pro audio discussion board like the LAB with the kind of dogma that you post on AA.
