Choosing an amp based on sound quality, reliability, & bass articulation

24.7.51.44

I posted a few days ago (12/7/00) re: creating a hybrid dj/~audiophile speaker system, (or just call it a good sounding high spl PA speaker. Well, I found some McCauley drivers for the top end (HF driver/10" mid @102db/w), and I am wondering about using a Carver 100 or 250 wpc HOME amp for the top end to get better sound quality. Would this be reliable, or am I asking for a blown amp?
Who is known for the best upper freq. sounding amps?

For the bass bins, I think I should stick with a pro-amp, possibly an old Carver PM series. Anyone have feedback on these? For the lows (40-300 or 400 hz) I should get an amp that excels at the duty of making articulate* and controlled bass.

Any recommendations on brands/models known for this, particularly reliable ones I could find second hand with ~300-400wpc @8ohms?
