Re: Compressor suggestions

I agree, and often keep things very short. I take everything direct to tape and dont even use a patch bay! I have devised a system of bussing and a few board patches where I dont need one. Right now all of my computer equipment is in a different studio. I use protools there and have the reniassance stuff, the 1176 , the focusrite etc. I like all of it but need a very good stand alone compressor for the hardware only studio. I like the sound of compression when used sparingly. I like the sound of iron or tubes int eh chain. I often patch a la2a across bass DI at one of the studios I work at but dont actually show any gain reduction.

Unlikke mr chesky, I like compression when used appropriately. Many old records were made with lots of it and sound great. Listen to any of the jazz records of old. You dont think they went straight to two track or mono for that matter without a compressor?

SO i agree with your principle of keeping it short, but I like running signal through class A devices, transformers and tubes- and wont have a computer to emulate that sound where this facility wil be located.

Last night I listened to an old Neve comp which I liked a lot but the asking price was $4k. A little high for me right now.

I also like the b&ks and have a pair of dpa 4011. I like 47s on most vocals better.
Just my taste
