Re: Any users of the Marantz PMD340?

Hey, I've dreamed about that player for a long time. I've been using consumer Marantz 67SE for some time and was missing better reproduction for classical music - mopre air, dynamics - not so harsh highs and more depth in general. So I tryed higher models of Marantz , costing 1000$ and more and came upon the PMD340 - it is better than all of the consumer ones - even the most costly models. I don't know about the SACD, but that is in a completely other price league. So - yes, it reads everything (CD-rw, CD-r, doesn't mind scratches, stains), plays smoothly, almost analog sounding - rock music sounds more interesting, classic and jazz sound more real. Enough said. I also auditioned Tascam CD160 and it sounds wonderful - I don't know how it is built, but it sounds 1000 bugs not 80, like the other guy mentioned in comparison with some Sansui.
You probably even don't need the extra DACs, but if you do - Marantz has an exeptional industrial mechanism - extra durable and stable and also some extra things about the laser - so I would suggest to go for it- It works fine with me.
But the future is coming - Marantz has some new consumer monster, that reads everything - DVD-audio, SACD, Hi-def CDs, etc.
I chose the PMD-340.
