I've listened to Mackie 624's and Truth (?) monitors.
The bass depth, power, and control on the Mackies was great. The air and space was great on the Truth. Neither could match the timber and harmonics of a triangle as played on ATC active 100's but those are $15,000.
Anyhow the cheaper pro monitors all seem harsh as in the "THD wars" of the late 70's. Are there any monitors that have their advantages but not the harshness? Are monitors supposed to be harsh in order to be more revealing? Budget is under $1,000, prefer under $500.
Thanks
