Mic/preamp suggestions needed

Pro studio recording equipment and music production/industry.

Having made some decent recordings ages ago, I want to get back into it, recording friends who are vocalists accompanied by piano, or chamber groups. Will start with a Revox cassette deck while I reacquaint myself with mic setups, later move on to something better.
What mics and mic preamps would you start with? Can't afford Neumanns and Manleys, but probably most else.
