dorkus,Sorry to chime in on everything!
The R300 is supposed to have good A/D converters and "middle" reliability, but I seem to remember that it did not have a jog/shuttle control. I could be wrong, but I thought only the R500 and R700 have it. From six years at a radio station, I consider a jog control with a smooth, progressive feel really essential. The automatic cueing and skip features are unpredictable as the 3 seconds of -60dB to trigger them does not always occur and you need to search by listening for edit points. The shuttle action was an esp. good feature of the Panasonic 3800.
Cheers,
