I've heard that even though a speaker's sensitivity rating may look compatible, the speakers still may require a lot of power to "come to life".
I've also been interested in pro Tannoys, also for use with tubes.
A lot of that pro gear looks interesting and the prices are OK. I'm even considering some of the Tannoy active monitors, especially the Ellipse 8 with the supertweeter. It's hard to audition, though, because in the store, everything connected to these monitors are also pro gear, which isn't like my setup at home. I'm not sure of the value of mixing pro gear with consumer audio.
