I would do (b) because-

1. The signal out of the preamp is most-likely higher in level than that straight out of the microphone (especially if the mic is passive), and noise and RF along the cable has less ill-effect in the presence of a higher-level signal.

2. The preamp probably has a lower output impedance than the microphone, so the preamp will most-likely drive the long cable better.

and 3. If the mic cable is unbalanced, it would be more susceptible to noise than a balanced cable.

The cabling between the preamp and A/D should be a low-noise low-loss balanced audio cable.
