Looking for a simple but excellent sound card

I need a simple PCI sound card that does really excellent A/D and D/A from a single set of RCA phono inputs and outputs. That's all it needs to do. I know there's no such thing any more, but the less extra stuff the better.

I'm archiving recordings of music from analog tape decks that don't have balanced XLRs (Revox A77 and Nakamichi Dragon). I already have a fair amount invested in high-quality RCA interconnects.

Up until now, I've been using a Digigram VXPocket V2 in my laptop and I've been satisfied with the results. Now I'm moving to a desktop system and I want something of similar or better quality.

I'm also open to suggestions for FireWire and/or USB 2.0 devices if anyone thinks those are more suited to the application.

Thanks for your suggestions!
