I live in Tokyo and speak Japanese. I called Tascam recently to find out when it would be released in Japan. They were very guarded, but said that they expected it to be some time in March.

FWIW, I was also curious to find out if DVD+R media can be used for live recordings or archiving where you don't need the editing facilities. Tascam confirmed that this is OK.
