I'm doing the same thing except from a Yamaha aw4416 - but my consideration set is quite different.I do some work with other studios, but mostly mastering. I can take tracks in from other studios in standard formats with time code.
Last year a producer friend told me he was sick of the "pro tools sound". I wondered if it was really the motu sound. I now have heard from several poeple that Nuendo and Samplitude sound better. I've mixed several records with pro tools in larger studios and they sounded fine but I have no basis for comparison. .. I wonder if pro tools will be the standard in 3 years? I wonder if I want my records to sound better - or at least, not "typical". I have seen softwares that convert among daw standards - so maybe that can give me full compatability. Also, last year I did 4 songs of a record the balance of which was produced elsewhere with protools. Then the other studio went broke, and a third studio (with pro tools) was signed on to remix the other protools stuff. Punchline: They could not do it - because the pro tools rigs were not compatable with eachother for some reason. So, even if you have protools, that's no guarentee, I guess.
I will likely go with Samplitude because you get a lot for the money, the UI is good, and people rave about the sound. What's not to like?
